about

A collection of things I put together during grad. school, including my thesis. For the latter, Resonants (2007), I originally had a plan to mic and record a staircase railing outside the campus music building. One day I rolled up and saw it had been demolished. All my plans of putting gongs one-half mile away and creating a gigantic controlled sound environment were gone (I took a hiatus). Three years later I finally figured out my style is better suited to the studio, so I hunkered down for three weeks and pulled this one out of my head.

Fild (2005) is the result of a lonely, broke winter in a freezing apartment. It still feels a bit naive, but I'm putting it out there. If you get bored, go to the seventh track and listen to a jam inside a Camaro where my roommate and I would call each other and put our phones together to make feedback. All the thumping sounds are from something wrong with the car battery.

Fohn (2004) was part of a Fugue assignment. It's based on the combination of three phone numbers. The end parts are a replication of a mysterious sound in my then apartment complex. i thought it might be a bird or someone's bathroom fan. Who knows?

If You Meant to Do It (remix) (2002) happened because I thought I could out-Merzbow Merzbow. And I was obsessed with the local SLC band, Red Bennies.
