In anticipation of doing my annual Halloween music, I recently began an investigation into Alvin Lucier's (ed. not Curran - it really was a typo that got perpetuated in the bio) "I Am Sitting In a Room," whose premise is to record my voice while speaking in a room with a little ambience, and then play the tape back in the same room - recording the results - and repeating ad nauseam. After so many different dubs, the sound has degraded into something ringy, hollow, full of transient things.

However, what I've learned is that this process turns anything one feeds into it into, sonically, a version of Lucier's piece. Through this, though, the process inspired the idea of a little less splicing and chopping and letting a sound - especially a human voice - say what it's saying. It might be interesting, as with track "Quelles contorsions!" where found answering machine cassettes linearly "narrate" what the heck happened to a guy named Rodney.

Music to turn on and leave behind a couch. Music to blast out of the speaker you hid under your roommate's bed while she was in class.
